Fire 2020 was victorious this past weekend in the Dickinson Select Gators basketball championship!!! The DSG league is, for the most part, a boy’s league and like the two previous years, they were not happy about the ladies coming in and beating them for a 3rd consecutive year.
Scoring well below their season average on offense, Fire struggle horribly from the freethrow line hitting just 1-14 for a crowd pleasing 7%. However, a relentless defense that held the DSG team to just a total of 9 points was able to secure the win.
The victory moves the Fire 2020 team to 10-1 on the season. A pretty good start for a team that has it sights set on placing high in the AAU 5th grade national tournament in Tennessee this July. The team has a rather hefty playing calendar. Make sure you catch a few games, you won’t be disappointed with the efforts of these young ladies.
