2015 Space City Shootout 1st Place
HTX Fire 2023 moved to 29-11 on the season, with a 6-0 run during the HTX Space City Shootout Tournament April 17-19 by playing in pool and bracket play of the 4th Grade Division and competing in pool play of the 5th Grade Division. Not too many teams have the opportunity to test themselves by playing in 2 divisions of the same tournament in the same weekend, however, that is exactly what Fire did. The girls were disappointed that they didn’t have the chance to also participate in bracket play of the 5th Grade Division. But to the delight of the parents before STAAR testing, the girls did not compete in 8 games over the weekend!
In the 4th Grade Division, Fire had the rare opportunity to play their age bracket. Fire won all four games by a margin of victory of more than 30 points per a game. Led by the six 4th Graders Keely Cummings, Cecelia Gammon, Ava Foster, Janae Tucker, Olivia Shaw and Dakota Watson, Fire was able to get an adequate lead in each of the games to allow court time for the younger team members including 3rd Grader Grace Stum, 2nd Graders Rezia Castillo and Brooklyn Watson, and 1st Grader Karina Smith.
HTX Fire 2023 also competed admirably in pool play of the 5th Grade Division by going 2-0. All 10 players contribute amiably to each of the six games played during the weekend. This was a very impressive weekend for a young team with both potential and expectations for improvement. ~Coach Aaron Watson HTX Fire 2023~
